Statue of Liberty (New York, USA):

  • Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States and was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
  • The statue stands at about 151 feet (46 meters) from the base to the tip of the torch. It is made of copper sheets assembled on a framework of steel supports.
  • The seven spikes on the crown of the statue represent the seven seas and continents of the world.
  • The statue’s full name is “Liberty Enlightening the World,” and it has become a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
  1. Christ the Redeemer (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil):
    • This iconic statue of Jesus Christ overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro from the peak of Mount Corcovado.
    • It was completed in 1931 and stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall, not including its 26-foot (8 meters) pedestal.
    • The arms of Christ the Redeemer stretch 92 feet (28 meters) wide, symbolizing an embrace of the city.
    • The statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and its design was created by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by French sculptor Paul Landowski.

    • The Great Sphinx is a limestone statue depicting a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human (likely representing the pharaoh Khafre).
    • It is believed to have been constructed during the reign of the pharaoh Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BCE) of the Old Kingdom.
    • The Sphinx measures about 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high.
    • The face of the Sphinx is believed to represent the Pharaoh, and it is one of the largest and oldest monumental sculptures in the world.

    • Created by renowned Italian artist Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504, the Statue of David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture.
    • The statue depicts the biblical hero David before his battle with Goliath, and it represents the ideal of male beauty and strength.
    • David stands 17 feet (5.17 meters) tall and was originally intended to be displayed on the roofline of Florence Cathedral but was placed in the Accademia Gallery in Florence in 1873 to protect it from weather damage.
    • Michelangelo’s David is admired for its lifelike detail and perfect proportions, showcasing the artist’s exceptional skill in marble sculpting.
